Thanks to You, This Rainforest Has a Future

A rainforest that Conservation Allies and our supporters helped protect is now set to become part of a major conservation landscape in Colombia.

In August, our partner Fundación ProAves reached its fundraising goal to acquire a 242-acre property in Colombia’s Chocó region, all thanks to your support!

Why this forest matters

The property is in western Colombia, within the Chocó, one of the most biodiverse forest regions in the world. Its unique rainforests support species found nowhere else, including the Vulnerable Gold-ringed Tanager, Critically Endangered Colombian Black Spider Monkey, and Critically Endangered Harlequin Poison Frog. The property will be incorporated into the Las Tángaras Reserve, a ProAves Protected Area that helps safeguard this forest and the wildlife that depends on it.

The 242-acre property is dominated by areas of cattle pasture and young recovering forest. By bringing this land into the Reserve, ProAves will quickly recover all 242 acres through native tree reforestation, restoring the land to its former glorious rainforest and creating a vital biological connection to surrounding protected forests

The next chapter

Reaching the fundraising goal was a major milestone. While only 242 acres, this was the missing piece of a 7,000 acre landscape puzzle. With it secured, the puzzle is complete, creating the most important strictly protected rainforest area in the Choco region of Colombia.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this possible. Now, this forest has a future.
